Its movie review time
Ghajini (Hindi)
Me being someone who has watched the Tamil version of Ghajini six times, watching Aamir Khan’s version was like watching the same for the seventh time. There is absolutely nothing fresh that Aamir Khan brings into the movie. In fact, I took some time to get used to the idea of watching Aamir Khan perform action sequences. Some scenes lack the kind of intensity that was required. For example, the scene in which he stands in front of the mirror flaunting his six eight pack- it required something more from Aamir.
But then there are some really powerful scenes that remain etched in your memory for a long time. The scene in which Kalpana gives Sanjay money by selling her car for his mother’s hospitalization is fantastic and gives a sane reason for Sanjay’s revenge seeking.
Then there were the usual questions asked- How is it possible that nobody knows how a millionaire CEO looks like? But no critic asked such questions when the tamil version was released. We eventually have to accept that Ghajini is a story born in South India. Else the physics defying stunts make the film look like a cartoon.
Haage Summane (Kannada)
There are two kinds of films. After watching the first kind, you cry, you laugh, you realize how close it was to your own life’s story, you wonder why the film didnt win an academy award or why it bagged only as many as it did, and things like that.
Then there is the second kind, after watching which you want to find the director, remove his pants and flog the skin off his ass for making you endure the torture that was meted out to you.
Watch Haage Summane only if are ready to do what the second kind of films demand you to do.
