This christmas..

–Huh! So another Christmas goes without making any impact on me. Its been like this for the last three years. No carols. No cakes. No wine. No celebrations. Well, blame it all on the VTU exams. While the entire world enjoys the most-celebrated holiday, here are a few thousands of students who sit cornered in their rooms and toil, all for a few marks in exams. Anyway, exams have never stopped me from having whatever little Christmas fun I can have. I watched ‘Miracle on 34th street’ this morning on Zee Studio. And I loved it.

–The boxing day tests starts tomorrow and I am sure I will end up in front of the TV the entire day. So I cant study for almost half of tomorrow. But who would want to sit and study when such a carnival of cricket begins tomorrow. And its at the MCG! So double fun. And yeah, it all depends on how well India plays. If India are skittled out for a paltry score and if I have to sit and watch Hayden and Ponting demolish our bowlers, I am sure I will start to think that ‘VLSI circuits’ is more interesting than any test match.

–Recession of US economy! Is that something which a guy in India is supposed to ponder about on a beautiful Christmas morning? Well, thats what I was doing this morning- hoping that US economy improves. Why? Rumours are rife that we might not get our offer letters from ‘a company’ until US economy improves. What bullshit! Why are we depending so much on the US for our jobs? All these days, reading about the appreciation of the Rupee against the Dollar used to make me feel so much more happier. But today, suddenly, I thought I made a mistake by celebrating the Rupee appreciation. I felt like I was being a traitor. I just hope things go right. Hopefully Obama will help me. I want him to win so badly!

–A mass-murderer in Gujarat won the elections while I was busy studying for next day’s exam- ‘Constitution of India and Professional Ethics’. What an irony! What do you blame? The system? The electorate? Anyway, the Constitution exam was so much fun. Lots of questions had absolutely no meaning and there were a few questions with all four answers no different from one another. All we needed to do was pass and I am happy that I will pass.

–I did watch parts of ‘Nach Baliye 3′ towards the end of the season. And I found Rakhi Sawant to be a wonderful dancer. She was amazing in some episodes that I got to watch. Its pretty unfortunate that she had to lose out. Reality shows are not something I am a big fan of. There can be lots and lots of golmaals in the voting process, so you can never be sure that the best team won. And there’s another thing about these reality talent shows that I detest. I think it spurs regionalism. Voters tend to vote for betas and betis of their geographical or linguistic neighbourhood rather than pure talent. I was watching ‘Chhote Ustaad’ on Star Plus last week and I saw a kid pleading for votes in Punjabi and another doing it in Bengali, obviously appealing to people of their states. The trend isn’t encouraging at all.

Anyway, I will go and try to finish off some portions from ‘Operating Systems’. Wish you all a very happy Christmas.

The only reason you got to see the match and take some time off this christmas is because of the small gap we had between CIPE and the next exam …

Usually that doesnt happen and its par for the course for students to forget what date or day it is except that today is ” VLSI exam day ” , day after is ” OS exam day” and so on till the exams are over …
